GAME STORIES WEEK X

Week 1 Flag Football Team Maroon
Team Maroon vs. Elgin Bears

What great weather for the first game of the season and the Pig Skin Classic!  Each player received a t-shirt and had their name announced to kick off the festivities!  What a great running game for the Maroon team!  All players were able to get their hands on the ball.  In the first half, Mitchelle Canales, Grant Meador, Ben Hansen, Ethan Pugh, Nathan Hull and Jack Lucchetti were able to score a touch down.  The second half was also very exciting!  Connor Dunfee, Nathan Garrison and Bradley Bode scored with Justin Hull and Jacob Uhlmann also having great runs but were stopped just short of the goal line.  Great effort Maroon!  Next game is this Saturday against Bartlett Blue.

Week #1 Bantam House league
Bantom Purple Team (Donatelli)

Purple (#5) -19 points Vs Yellow - 0

The "Purple People Eaters" overcame some early miscues to soundly beat the Yellow Chargers. A swarming defense, let by Matt Barr, Cole Depaul, Joey Tufo. Michael Donatelli, Zach Lafave, Trevor Rzeszutko,Daniel Strueland,Ryan Strangle, Shay Barney, Evan Kroncke, shut down Yellows ground attack.

Solid play from Purples offensive line of Daniel, Eli, Matt, Cody,Evan,Chris and Joey created the push needed for Purple to score 19 unanswered points. Purple was fired up on both sides of the football and it was needed to defeat a real tuff yellow team!

Week 1  107# Team Leonhard

Tri-City Chargers Leonhard – 0 vs. Tri-City Chargers Vruno – 20

On a hot, hazy, humid summer day, the team came to the gridiron with four of its players – Jacob Gabinski (#2), Luke Doncel (#20), Josh Leonhard (#25) and Jake Hlava (#33) – sidelined with illness or injury.  Despite the setback, the other 13 members of the team – Kyle Lorenz (#7), Chris Impson (#12), Connor Bingham (#17), Joe Meyers (#40), Luis Martinez (#46), Daniel Zielecki (#55), Nathan Ohse (#60), Mitch Davey (#61), Andrew Holzapfel (#65), Matthew Weston (#79), Robert Kudlicki (#82), Michael Hansen (#87), and Tyler Camp (#91) – gallantly took the field, some filling in for their missing teammates in positions with which they had little or no experience.  Taking advantage of our team’s disadvantage, Team Vruno scored a touchdown and extra point in the starting minutes of the game.  Vruno’s momentum continued through the first half with his team racking up another two touchdowns and an additional extra point.  In the second half, although Team Vruno kept coming on full force, our team held them scoreless even though both Quarterback Lorenz and Center Meyers had joined the list of injured players.  Although our guys weren’t victorious, the game gave them opportunities to play numerous positions and advance their knowledge of the game.  They, also, played the game without giving up many penalty yards, something positive to sustain through the remainder of the season.  Special mention to Daniel Zielecki, who did a commendable job in filling in as quarterback.  Here’s looking to next week – LET’S GO CHARGERS!!!

Week 1 97# Stallmann
Stallmann - 0 vs Wells - 13

It was a hot and humid day for the 1st regular season game and the Defense really made the opposition really sweat for every point.  All the boys played hard on both Offense and Defense.
On Offense #1 Tyler Welter, #3 Justin Galante, #20 Miles Williams and #24 Sam Grohe tried hard to establish the running game with the help of the Offensive line.  On Defense the opposition got pushed back frequently due to the tireless efforts of the Defensive line and constant tackles by #20 Miles Williams, #24 Sam Grohe, #34 John Luna and  #54 Brady Anderson.  Some noteworthy defensive plays include a blocked pass by #54 Brady Anderson and a recovered fumble by #24 Sam Grohe.  On Special Teams #34 John Luna had some nice returns and #7 Bobby Pierce covered the ball.
The team will train hard this week and be back next Saturday to face team Bonbreake. GO CHARGERS!!

Week1 TCC Middleweight Team Perry
Team Perry vs. Team Birkhaug

Team Perry kicked off the season with a great win over Team Birkhaug.
Under the direction of Coach Tom Perry, Coach Jim Juriga and Coach Joe Adduci the team excelled on Saturday allowing only one first down to the other team.

The offense was able to score 12 points because of great pass blocking and keeping them away from our running backs. Those players are #62 DJ Rizzi, #7 Jacob Asquini, #47 Erik Boehmer, #16 Alex Filipos, #54 Tommie Fink, #1 Kaleb Sanchez, #80 Charlie Tortorice. GO CHARGERS TEAM PERRY!

Week 2 Flag Football Team Maroon

Team Maroon vs. Bartlett Hawks – Blue

Warm humid weather greeted us at Bartlett High School.  If you have been there before, you know the walk to the field is a workout in itself!  But once the Maroon team hit the field, we knew it was going to be a great game!  Defense!  Defense!  Was the theme of the day!  Bartlett Blue only scored one touchdown all game!  Great job Maroon!  Highlights include touchdowns made by Mitchelle Canales, Jack Luchetti, Grant Meador and Ben Hansen.  The strong defense came from Bradley Bode, Nathan Garrison, Justin Hull and Eric Lovestrand who all were hungry for flags.  Ethan Pugh was the feature back this game and had two great runs that resulted in extra points!  Bartlett Hawks-Grey is the next victim in two weeks.

Week 1 97# Rawson Silver

Tri City Chargers Rawson Silver - 6 vs. Tri City Chargers Bonbreake Purple - 13

The Silver Falcons started their season with a booming kick off by Michael Rawson. The defense came on the field and was led by Julian Desens, Justin Johnson, Jason Turnbull and Chris Holloway.   The entire game turned into a hard fought battle.  The offensive line anchored by Stephen Woodcock, Connor Williams and Peter Eshbaugh opened holes for our runners to break through. Late in the first half our opponents scored, but a crunching tackle by Cameron Canales prevented the extra point.

Early in the second half Jake Chantos, off the play of James Fleck, ran 75 yards around left end to score a touchdown for the Silver Falcons. The extra point was successful and we were leading 7-6.

The defense played tough the entire game with Jack Hood getting the team’s first interception of the year. Jack Doherty, Jackson Kemple, and Kyle Duermit all made vital tackles to shut down the Purple team’s offense.  Mario Folino and William

Fredericks made impressive open field tackles on punts.

Unfortunately, our opponents scored again and the final was Purple - 13 and the Silver Falcons - 7.  It was a tough first game, but we learned a lot and will be ready for our next game.

Week 1 97# Team Bonebrake

Team Bonebrake - 13 vs. Team Rawson - 6

A thrilling comeback victory kicked off the 2008 season for Team Bonebrake.  Christian Sidoti scored from 16 yards out with 2:10 left on the clock to give Team Bonebrake a hard fought win. The offensive line of Reesh Marchuk, Matt Cagney, Ryan Callaghan, Cole Bonebrake, Noah Bieszke, Connor Jones, Matt Rinne, and Eric Stone controlled the line of scrimmage throughout the game which allowed Sidoti, Aiden Wright, Enzo Senese, and Kyle Bernat to dominate the game on the ground. The defense led by Ian Faust, Chris Ulrich, and Charlie Charpentier was equally impressive and came up with a decisive stand deep in their own territory as time expired to preserve the victory. Go Purple!!!

Week 1 87# Hanson Chargers 20 McDonald Chargers 0

The Tri-City Chargers Youth Football League opened its 2008 season on Saturday, August 23.   The McDonald team came out swinging and systematically drove the ball down the field in a drive that lasted over 9 minutes.  The Hanson Chargers defense buckled down in the red zone and thwarted the drive with a turnover.  ILB-90 Jake Baxa pounced on a loose ball ending the threat.  Late in the first half QB-9 Liam Drummond broke free and scampered 72 yards for a TD.  RB-51 Tommy Surges followed up in the 2nd half with 2 TD’s of his own (29, 39 yards).  Drummond ended up with 99 yards on the ground and Surges had 88 in the winning effort.  The offensive line took the game over in the 2nd half as they controlled the line of scrimmage behind the blocking of LG-90 Baxa, C-57 John East, RG-99 Tyler Baker, RT-66 Gabe Folino, LT-79 Wedge Lazenby, LE-36 Kyle Riggs, and RE-61 Colton Weber.  Team Hanson ended up with 202 yards rushing on the day.

After the opening drive, Team Hanson only gave up 2 Ist downs.  ILB-51 Surges picked off a pass and had 9.5 tackles.  ILB-90 Baxa added 7 more and teamed up with DT-99 Baker for a sack.  Hanson’s defense bent but did not break in their opening effort.

 Week 1 Bantam 87
Tri City Black Tolle 21– Tri City Silver Spurling 12

The TCC Black team faced off against the TCC Silver In the first week of the
regular season. The Black came out with Hughes making a recovery of a well
placed on-side kick by Callaghan. The offense, anchored up front by Tolle,
Dumas, Anderson, Sanders, Mitchell, Johnson and Preston began pounding the ball
from mid field. The spread offense showed Dixon wide in the slot and Buetow and
Hughes in the back field and Kortan at QB. The black team drove down to the 1
yard-line with runs by Hughes and Buetow, but the Silvers defense hel d stro ng
and stopped the Black.
Out came the Starting Black defense, running a 5/3 with Callaghan at
middle line backer, flanked by Hughes and Buetow at the outside spots. Strong
safety was Hunter, with Tolle and Anderson lurking at the two ends. The front
five were Johnson, Kortan, Preston, Thiesse, and Lil’ Nick Kortan. On the first
offense play of the Silver team, Tolle rocketed in the back field and made a
diving tackle for a safety.
The Black’s offense struggled on the next two possessions, able to move
the ball on strong running by Buetow and Hughes. It was the Black’s unstoppable
defense, only allowing 2 first downs in the first half. Tyler Johnson leading
the team tackles, mostly for a loss. Preston, playing the opposite defensive
end applied pressure from the outside and picked up a fumble to spark the Black
chargers.
On the next possession, Danny “lightning” Buetow, seemingly stopped for
a loss, burst from the p ile an d scampered down the sidelines for the first
Chargers TD of the regular season. Buetow would go ahead to rush for over 125
yards on the day. The third quarter again started with the Black team kicking
off and the tough hitting of Hughes, Tolle and Anderson giving the ball back to
the offense. Following text book perfect open field block by Dixon and Hughes,
Buetow broke free for his second of three touch downs of the day.
The Chargers held the Silver to a 21-0 before giving up two late scores,
one on a nicely picked off pass and the other on a run from short yardage. The
score was then 21-12 and the silver team gaining momentum. The Black defense
held strong, but great coverage by Hunter to the deep passes and Thiesse and
LIl’ Nick up front to plug up the middle. With time running out the Black team
turned to Tolle to pound the ball up the middle and eat up the clock leading the
teams first victory of the regular season.

Go Ch a rgers.
